Klimt Collaboration 23rd January 2025

What a fantastic ‘paint together’ session at Dedham Assembly Rooms recently, where our members gathered to create a collaborative recreation of Gustav Klimt’s Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.

Hosted by the wonderful Lorraine George and Wendy Fisher, the afternoon started with Lorraine sharing some fascinating history about Klimt, Adele, and the artist’s distinctive style.

Wendy then gave us a brilliant gold leaf demonstration, showing how to apply those delicate, shimmering sheets—and just as importantly, how to avoid the common pitfalls, kindly providing samples already created for members to practice on.

With inspiration (and a little gold dust) in the air, members picked their section of the painting and got to work, blending Klimt’s signature opulence with their own artistic flair.

If all goes to plan then the final result will be on display at our summer exhibition.

A huge thank you to Lorraine for supplying the materials and inviting optional donations to the Rob George Foundation, and to Wendy for guiding us through the magic of gold leaf.

Also thank you to our members for making it such a fun and inspiring event, we can’t wait to share the finished piece with you all. Stay tuned!
