Dedham Village by Helen Morgans

The Dedham Art Society is a well-established art group, located in the High Street, Dedham within walking distance of the beautiful Dedham Vale National Landscape

We take inspiration from this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Essex-Suffolk border, cherished by John Constable and we are fortunate to be surrounded by the rich artistic history of other well known artists associated with Essex and Suffolk such as Sir Alfred Munnings, Thomas Gainsborough, Lucien Freud and Thomas Churchyard.

Of particular interest specific to Dedham. The Munnings Art Museum, the former home and studio of Sir Alfred Munnings is located in Dedham. As was the original location of the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing,  an art learning environment established by Sir Cedric Morris and Arthur Lett-Haines in 1937.   In addition to Lucian Freud, students of the school included Maggi Hambling, David KentishBettina Shaw-LawrenceLucy HarwoodJoan Warburton, Glyn Morgan, Valerie Thornton and Bernard Brown.

The Dedham Art Society (DAS) is open to artists from Essex and Suffolk and is made up of professional and amateur artists of all abilities and levels.  DAS operates under a co-operative concept of mutual benefit and inclusion. Enjoyment of painting and community continues to be at the heart of our Society.

Dedham Art Society Annual Programme

Throughout the year, we meet regularly to get together and paint, host workshops and demonstrations as well as organise sessions with visiting professional artist/tutors. We meet every two weeks on a Thursday afternoon at The Assembly Rooms in Dedham from 2.00-4.30pm and in summer we endeavour to paint outside at interesting locations.
